Libratone speaker firmware update

On February 5th, 2013 Libratone released new firmware for the Libratone speakers Zipp, Live and Lounge.

The new speaker firmware is available through the Libratone iOS app version 2.21, which is ready for download in Apple's App Store here. Please remember to download the new supporting user manuals for the updated firmware here BEFORE updating your speaker.

NOTE: The new speaker firmware is designed for our AirPlay speakers - Libratone Zipp, Live and Lounge. Libratone Beat is not supported.

NOTE: If you have more than one Libratone speaker you need to perform the update for each Libratone speaker separately, as they are not updated simultaneously.

NOTE: You can't update speaker firmware through Libratone app for Android.

How do I update my speaker with the latest firmware?

  1. The new firmware update alters several features in your speaker and we therefore strongly recommend downloading a new, updated user manual to support your use of the new features. The updated user manuals are available here.
We encourage you to get the new user manual before upgrading your speaker.
  2. Before updating - please place your speaker and the iOS device near the main WiFi router / access point (for optimal signal strength between speaker and access point).
  3. Restart your speaker and iOS device and check that you can play music to your speaker.
  4. Make sure that your iOS device has sufficient battery power before starting the update (above 50% battery power left).
  5. Launch the Libratone app (if an update to the Libratone app is available, please update to the latest version 2.21 before continuing).
  6. Press the "Connect" tab and select your speaker in the "Select Speaker" list.
  7. Press the "Update tab" - and then the "Check for Update" button. Read the update notes CAREFULLY - and press the "Update" button to start the firmware update
  8. Updating takes a few minutes. Please don't leave the Libratone app while updating as this may interrupt the update process.
  9. Upon completion of the update you will get a message stating "Software updated successfully" and your speaker will report having been updated.
  10. Perform a factory reset to release the new audio settings with improved performance. A factory reset is performed like this: Zipp users click here. Live users click here. Lounge users click here. Upon factory reset you need to do a fresh setup of your speaker again.
  11. Note that if you have more than one Libratone speaker you will need to perform the update for each one seperately, as they are not updated simultaneously.

Troubleshooting

On rare occasions the firmware update procedure may fail and you need to restart the update. Don't worry, this is normally a straightforward process.

In most cases, the firmware update issue appears due to packet loss in the data stream from your iOS device to your Wi-Fi router and speaker. To minimize the risk of packet loss in the data stream, restart your Wi-Fi router and move your iOS and speaker within 10 feet / 3 meter of the main Wi-Fi router.

Close all open apps on your iOS device and follow this procedure:

  1. Restart YOUR Libratone speaker - OFF/ON (applies to speaker models Live and Lounge).
  2. Wait 1 minute and restart the Libratone app.
  3. Press the "Connect" tab and select your speaker in the "Select Speaker" list. Repeat pressing the "Refresh List" button until the speaker shows up. If you can't find your speaker in the speaker list - please read the NOTE below.
  4. Press the "Update" tab and press the update button to restart the firmware update.
  5. Wait until the update finishes with a "Software updated successfully" message.

If the firmware update fails again - please restart your speaker and try troubleshooting step 1 to 5 again. Repeat this procedure up to 10 times. PLEASE BE PATIENT. The software is designed to resume update from point of data interruption.
